Do you take insurance?

Dr. Mackey is NOT on any insurance networks so your payment using cash, credit or check will be due at the time of service. However, the office will provide you with a superbill at each visit so that you can submit it to your PPO insurance provider. Reimbursement rates for out of network primary care or osteopathic visits vary greatly depending upon insurance plans (any where from 0% to 80% of your visit may be paid back to you).

What is the cost?

Pricing of office visits and O.M.T. vary based on complexity, treatment and age of the patient. Initial visits are 90 minutes (see section under “Your Appointment” on Home page) and cost between $350 and $475. Follow- up visits - 45 minutes to 1 hour are between $195 and $265.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Santa Monica office hours are Monday 12pm-5pm, Tuesday & Wednesday 9am-5pm and Thursday 9am-1pm. Hours may vary based on travel and teaching schedule. The best way to get up to date availabilities is to call the office at 310-576-2505 during office hours Monday -Friday 8am to 5 pm.

Can you be my primary care provider (PCP)?

Yes. All health issues will be discussed and can be addressed at your visit. Although O.M.T. is done at all visits as a technique to treat the person as a whole, health management including diet, lifestyle, medications and underlying root causes are often being discussed simultaneously.

Does osteopathy help acute illness or injury?

Yes. Aside from emergencies that require medical stabilization, osteopathic treatment can help to mobilize the body’s innate defenses and lymphatic drainage- potentially preventing need for antibiotics or development of chronic issues. Although further workup may be recommended on a case by case basis, early osteopathic treatment can be very beneficial.

Do you prescribe medications?

Yes. Occasionally during an acute injury or illness certain conventional medications may be prescribed. Additionally, patients may require as needed refills for ongoing issues such as migraine prophylactics or anti-depressants. These will require regular monitoring at office visit similar to any PCP.

Do you prescribe any natural remedies or supplements?

Yes. Typically herbs, supplements, homeopathic remedies are recommended based on a patients condition and exam. Further testing such as nutritional or hormonal profiles, stool studies, food sensitivities may be indicated. Every patient will receive dietary recommendations as well as home exercises and even meditations and breath work. All holistic remedies will be prescribed in conjunction with allopathic recommendations.
